A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF FAILING TO BE “JDM” | Fuck Vtec

A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF FAILING TO BE “JDM” <sarcasm>You relocated your front plate for no reason. Sick. Every riced out DC/EF generation car running around nowadays has done this, so why not you too? Maybe you took it off completely and then got a fix-it ticket and couldn’t find the original mounting bracket, I don’t know. You’ve got a towhook! Coooooool. That won’t be hard to steal and serves zero purpose as your car already has hidden towhooks underneath the front and rear bumpers just in case, you know, it actually has to be towed? Well at least you can put sodas there when you’re parkinglot pimpin at local shows/meets. Makes for some cool pics, yeahh. That’s a real nice front lip you’ve got there. Looks like an EM1 SI lip ghettrofitted onto your newer civic or maybe just another eBay replica? Either way, lookin sharp, and matching lips on newer Hondas are overrated anyway, who does that??Well, check out those headlights. I’m going to go out on a limb here and guess that they’re either DEPOT “oem quality” replacements that come with that JDM blackhousing or some ebay knock-offs. Either way, everyone knows black housing = JDM. Cool grille. It almost looks like an RS grille but I can’t tell. Grillcraft? Or maybe eBay had a combo deal going with the headlights or something. Shit. Makes your ES1 front end almost look like it has an SI grille. Even though your particular car never came in an SI trim? Oh well, guys on the street won’t know that, they’ll probably think you dropped a K-series in there…. And needed better airflow… Or something..?Sticker-bombed roof rack. With nothing on it. It’s probably stolden, but “they’re really trendy right now so I’ll rock it for a few weeks then slang it on craigslist.” Visors. Are those real? Probably not. eBay or weathertech would be my first guess. Enjoy your windows falling off the track when you goto roll them up all the way.Sidemarkers. From a DC2. Why the fuck not? Because using sidemarkers from a same-gen car like the RSX just doesn’t make sense in this case. You went old-skool, I understand, bonus points here. Also, you just matched them up with the moulding instead of getting a template and trying to put them in the right spot on the fender. Cool.Kewl hood-guard thing. “QUICKSHIFT”, that will totally look cool AND keep your hood from getting chipped up. Even though your car is so low that your front bumper is probably going to get torn off years before your hood sees any significant damage from rock chips or daily driving.Lastly, fog lights. They might be OEM, but given the nature of the rest of the modifications on this car, and the fact they they’re yellow I’m going to guess that they’re eBay. Yellow is JDM, right? Those will crack in a few months but luckilly you can replace them with another eBay set for $25 shipped. No problems here!</sarcasm> The thing that pisses me off the most about this car isn’t that its probably dropped on some shit ebay suspension to match the rest of its ricy-ness, but that had the owner not purchased all these cheap/trendy mods for his car, he probably would have had enough cash to buy something worthwhile like full coilovers with camber kits, some real wheels, maybe a nice 4300k HID kit, or even TSX retros. Really, he could have bought anything to improve the actual drive-ability of the car and its future resell value instead of wasting his money on shit. I hate seeing vehicles like this, and when I go to purchase my next car its going to be completely stock and unmolested. Being the “next owner” of cars like this can often be a nightmare. If this is what the outside looks like, who knows what kind of jank shit the owner did to the motor trying to get more HP or noise out of it, right?EDIT: Actually talked to the owner of this car on Facebook and it’s not nearly as rice as I thought. Headlights and fogs are OEM and he has a legit suspension setup with camber kits, ect. I understand that aftermarket support for these 4door civic ES1s is limited and he was trying to be creative. I tagged most of the post with <sarcasm> tags for a reason!

I came upon this blog because of enormous discussion on a thread on 7thgenhonda.com.  What this guy is saying is definitely 99% true and it was a great funny write up but unfortunately the car he chose to use an example probably wasn’t the best choice.  Apparently the blogger talked to the owner and actually explaining that he was not attacking this car but just using it as an example.   Pretty courteous for the internet I would have to say because remember it’s just the internet right?

I don’t know if anyone knows who that car or picture up there is taken by but it is the car and photography of Limestand Photography.  He is probably one of the 1st group of people that started fixing up the 7th Generation of civics.  The generation that was forgotten by Honda.  They have no aftermarket support and no Si or Mugen version ever made of it in Japan.  Unlike the their 8th Generation older brother that already had enormous amounts of aftermarket support even before the car was available for purchase.

He is a pretty cool cat and I heard his car is going through a huge overhaul.  I think this is some of my favorite shots of his car. –LFD
